BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program is excited to announce the commitment of forward Jakob Jones to the non-conference roster for the 2024.25 season.

Jones, from Vernon, BC, was a near point-per-game player with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s (MJHL) Swan Valley Stampeders and Winkler Flyers, recording 117 points in 118 games. Prior to this time in the MJHL, he would spend the 2022 season with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) Humboldt Broncos and British Columbia Hockey League’s (BCHL) Merritt Centennials. He would also serve as the Stampeders’ alternate captain during the 2024 season.

“Like all the guys we brought in, he’s an incredibly hard worker,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta, “He’s coming into a very competitive environment, and with us having a lot of new faces we’re looking forward to seeing how he approaches the opportunity to be an everyday player on this team.”

Jones will be studying mechatronics engineering at SFU, and looks forward to earning his degree and winning games at the highest level of university hockey.
