BURNABY – Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey has named Nick Wicks the 13th captain in program history for the 2023.24 non-conference team.

The Red Leafs have also named defencemen Jake Keremidschieff and Tristen Cross alternate captains for the 2023.24 non-conference team.

Wicks, who joined the Red Leafs during the 2021 campaign, succeeds Mitch Ledyard who served as captain for two seasons from 2021 to 2023.

“Wicksy came to us a couple years back now and has done a great job stepping into a leadership role on and off the ice,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta, “he’s someone that the guys gravitate towards.”

Wicks transferred to SFU after two years in the NCAA with the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves and Clarkson University Golden Knights program, where he put up 19 points over 47 games. In his first full season with the Red Leafs, Wicks led the team in scoring with 46 points over 20 games and finished second in BCIHL scoring, and now sits in third for points scored in a single season; just one shy of second place Jono Ceci’s 47 points in 24 games during the 2013.14 season.

“Along with Jake Keremidschieff and Tristen Cross, our leadership group built for success, and after two years of success with [former captain] Mitch Ledyard our guys know the importance of keeping that going.”

Wicks will make his debut as team captain on September 30th in Ann Arbor, MI as the Red Leafs take on the University of Michigan Wolverines.
