GAMEDAY | Red Leafs look to rebound on Saturday afternoon against Lake State
PLYMOUTH, MI – The Red Leafs are back for one more game at USA Hockey Arena against the Lake Superior State University Lakers.
After a strong performance that saw the Red Leafs fall in a close 2-1 battle against Robert Morris, SFU will take to the ice once more for the USNTDP Showcase against Lake Superior State University.
Lake State opened their season with back to back losses against Michigan State last weekend, losing the first game in overtime by a score of 2-1 and the second 5-1. Following SFU’s game on Friday, the Lakers faced the USNTDP U-18 squad and earned a decisive 6-1 victory.
The Lakers have a more veteran veteran group than any team SFU has faced to far this year, boasting eight seniors and five juniors. The team still added seven freshmen to the roster, including goaltender Rorke Applebee (West Kelowna) and defenceman Adam Barone (Trail) from the British Columbia Hockey League. The program was picked to finish sixth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) pre-season polls, directly behind Bowling Green who the Red Leafs will face on Sunday.
The Red Leafs are obviously frustrated with how last night’s performance still ended in a loss, and the team will look again to find a way back into the win column against another team they have experience against. No lineup changes are expected from SFU.
Saturday’s game will again be streamed live on USA Hockey TV, and as always, you can follow us on Twitter / X and Instagram at @SFUHockey for live updates throughout the game.
