BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program is excited to announce the commitment of Tanner Dawkins to the non-conference roster for the 2024.25 season.

Dawkins, a right-shot defenceman, joins the Red Leafs with over 150 games over 3 years of Junior “A” experience in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) including 25 playoff games. The Cloverdale born defender earned 43 points during his time in junior hockey.

“Tanner is a smart, mobile defenceman,” says Head Coach Mark Coletta, “he has a pass-first mentality and can move the play up the ice well.”

“He’s got a few years of Junior A experience under his belt and should be able to jump right into the lineup.

“He’ll be a great addition to this group.”

“I am extremely excited to start my academic and athletic career close to my home at SFU,” said Dawkins.

Off the ice, Dawkins will focus on general studies at SFU while working towards becoming a fire fighter post-graduation.

Dawkins joins former teammate Kiano Robinson on the Red Leafs after playing one season together in Drumheller in 2022.
