RELEASE | Maxim Potvin to join SFU
BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program is excited to announce the commitment of forward Maxim Potvin to the non-conference roster for the 2024.25 season.
Potvin, from Sudbury, ON, joins the Red Leafs with junior and U20 playing experience in Canada, the USA, and Sweden. Potvin’s elite playing career started with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes AAA program before playing overseas with the IF Mölndal Hockey and Borås HC Division 1 and Junior Elite programs in Sweden. He would return to North America to finish his time at the Junior level wit the British Columbia Hockey League’s Powell River Kings and Trail Smoke Eaters, amassing 74 points in 127 BCHL games.
“Max is a very good player,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta, “He’s very smart and crafty, and I’m impressed with his play away from the puck.”
Potvin also comes from a high-level hockey background, with his grandfather Denis captaining the New York Islanders to all four of their Stanley Cup Championships.
“He has hockey pedigree, and that’s something you can’t teach,” said Coletta.
Potvin describes himself as an offensive playmaking winger that can play with speed on and off the puck. When asked what his goals for the season are, he stated that he’s here to win and prove that SFU can compete and be a contender at the D1 level.
