BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs return to Burnaby to wrap up the 2023 calendar year to take on the local rival Trinity Western University Spartans.

As a part of the Pat Quinn Classic, the Red Leafs will host the Spartans for the second time this season to close out 2023.

“Playing against the local rivals is always important for us,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta, “We’re recruiting in the same area…you want to make sure you put your best foot forward not only for the players but for the families choosing which school they want to go to, and a hockey program is that thing that can push guys over the edge and decide to come play.”

The Spartans are in their third season as a member of USports CanadaWest since leaving the BCIHL after the 2019.20 season. This year the team holds a 3-16-0 overall record, a 2-14-0 record in-conference and is currently riding a 6-game losing streak dating back to November 10th.

The Red Leafs hold a 54-31-7 record over the Spartans all-time dating back to 2007, with the Spartans taking the most recent meeting by a score of 3-2.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm PST; admission is free to the general public, and fans at home can stream the game live on YouTube.
