PREVIEW | Red Leafs Hockey kicks off 2025 campaign with 4 games in September
BURNABY, BC – Red Leafs hockey returns to the ice for four games in September, including three home games at Bill Copeland Sports Centre.
September signals a new year for both the school calendar and hockey calendar, as the Red Leafs kick off the 2025 season with four games in Burnaby and Vancouver.
This year’s season opener and home opener sees none other than the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds make their way to Bill Copeland Sports Centre on September 13th.
“It’s an intense and physical game,” said forward Kyle Young, who returns to the Red Leafs for his second season, “it’s fun to play in.”
“The fans always bring it, I love that,” said defenceman Kiano Robinson, who is entering his third season with the Red Leafs.
UBC comes into the 2025 season after being eliminated in a 3-2 loss to McGill University in the quarter-finals of the University Cup tournament to finish their 2024 campaign. SFU and UBC only met once last season, where the Thunderbirds took the victory by a 5-3 margin.

The following weekend will see the Red Leafs host the former BCIHL rival Trinity Western University Spartans for two nights on September 20th and 21st. TWU holds a 4-2 record over the Red Leafs since leaving the BCIHL to join USports-CanadaWest, with SFU taking the last meeting between the two clubs 2-0 this past December.

The Red Leafs will wrap up the local tour on September 28th in Vancouver for a rematch against the UBC Thunderbirds at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
