GAMEDAY | SFU with one more opportunity in October in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, OH – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs hockey program is in Bowling Green, Ohio to face the Bowling Green State University Falcons to wrap up game action for October.
After the first two games of the weekend saw SFU fall in tightly contested matches by scores of 2-1 and 4-1, the Red Leafs are on the road to Bowling Green, Ohio to face Bowling Green State. The last time these teams met was in 2014 where the Falcons earned a 7-2 victory over the BCIHL club.
Bowling Green enters Sunday’s matchup after routing the Robert Morris University Colonials on Thursday night by a score of 7-2, scoring 5 in the third to take the victory. The Falcons added six player to their 2024.25 roster this past offseason, including from the British Columbia Hockey League Johannes Løkkeberg (West Kelowna) and Jackson Niedermayer (Penticton), son of 4-time Stanley Cup Champion and Hockey Hall of Famer Scott Niedermayer. Junior Brett Pfoh leads the Falcons with 3 goals in 3 games, and was named the CCHA player of the week after last week’s games against Mercyhurst. Bowling Green also has several notable alumni, including former Anaheim Duck and Vancouver Canuck Kevin Bieksa (2000-2004).
The Red Leafs proved over the past two games that despite struggling in the box score, the team finds a way to stay in games and doesn’t let their foot off the gas when the games get tough. Lineup decisions for Sunday’s game are still pending, but this weekend’s performances by Cale Dolan (25/27, 0.926 sv%) and Jesse Makaj (28/31, 0.903 sv%) leaves the Red Leafs in a good position in net regardless of who starts. Leading scorer Walker Erickson left Saturday’s game with an injury at the end of the second period and he is not expected to play.
