Proudly Sponsored By

BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs are set to face a familiar opponent in the BCIHL University of Victoria Vikes on Friday night.

After a couple of weeks off, the SFU Red Leafs will look to improve their 2-2-0 record in November on Friday night against UVic, a team that is currently on their own impressive run this month.

UVic currently sits in second in the BCIHL standings with a 7-2-1 record over 10 games, just behind the VIU Mariners with a 7-0-1 record with two games in hand. Friday’s game will be UVic’s fifth non-conference game of their season, facing the USports–CanadaWest Trinity Western University Spartans, and the ACAC’s Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Ooks, and University of Alberta–Augustana Vikings. The Vikes have a record of 1-2-1 in the previous non-conference matchups this year, winning their only matchup by a score of 4-0 against the Thunder.

The Red Leafs enter Friday’s match after three weeks off of game action, falling in heartbreaking fashion by a score of 6-5 to the Plattsburgh State Cardinals at the beginning of November in the team’s last matchup. Leading the way in November has been forwards Austin Fraser with 2 goals and 5 points and Lucas Ceccarelli with 3 goals, adding to his team-leading 7 goals this season. Friday’s game is the only currently scheduled matchup against a BCIHL opponent and the last home game scheduled at Bill Copeland Sports Centre for the non-conference team this season. Red Leafs forward Bradley Banach is expected to make his return to the lineup after missing the last 4 games with an injury and Cale Dolan is projected to start in net.

Tickets to Friday’s game are still available at shop.sfuhockey.com for $12, tickets can be purchased at the door for $15, and SFU students with valid ID or proof of enrolment can attend for free. Those who are unable to attend will be able to watch the game live on YouTube via the SFU Hockey channel, or you can make your way to Biercraft on campus to watch.
