GAMEDAY | Red Leafs kick off US National Development Team Program Showcase against Robert Morris
PLYMOUTH, MI – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs are back in Michigan to face off against the Robert Morris University Colonials for the second time in as many years.
After a challenging and disappointing start to the NCAA leg of the season, SFU will look to flip the script and get back in the win column against Robert Morris. The Red Leafs held a 1-0 lead going into the third against RMU last season, but ultimately fell in a comeback that saw the Colonials take the game 3-1.
Robert Morris enters their 19th season as an NCAA D1 program, and first as apart of Atlantic Hockey America. RMU finished the 2024 regular season with a 7-17-2 in-conference record and 11-25-3 non-conference record, losing 5 of their final 6 games of the regular season. Their record earned them a spot in the AHA playoff tournament, where they would fall in the quarter-finals to Rochester I.T. in two games. The Colonials added nine freshmen to their roster this season, including forward Trent Wilson who spent three years in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Surrey Eagles and West Kelowna Warriors.
SFU will need to continue their trend of strong starts heading into the weekend on top of keeping the pressure on teams through the entire 60 minutes. Forward Bradley Banach is projected to make his Red Leafs debut after missing the first 6 games of the season due to injury, and Ben Ward (3-1–4) will look to extend his point streak to 4 games. Goaltender Cale Dolan is expected to start in goal for his second game of the season,
