GAMEDAY | Red Leafs head north for first of two against Alaska–Fairbanks Nanooks
FAIRBANKS, AK – The SFU Red Leafs hockey club is in Fairbanks, Alaska to kick off the 2025 portion of the season.
SFU will take on the northern-most NCAA program in the University of Alaska–Fairbanks Nanooks on Friday and Saturday night. The Nanooks are 7-9-4 so far this season, sitting below a .500 win percentage for the first time since the 2021.22 season. SFU and UAF have a history of exhibition play, with the teams’ last matchup finishing as a 6-0 win for the Nanooks back in 2022.
SFU PLAYER TO WATCH – Captain Jimmy Darby returns to Alaska for the first time since playing as a member of the Alaska–Anchorage Seawolves in 2022.23. Darby has 6 assists thus far and will be looking to lead the Red Leafs to their sixth win of the year.
UAF PLAYER TO WATCH – Senior forward Matt Hubbarde leads Canadian skaters on the team in goals and points. The Pickering, Ontario native has 4 goals and 11 points in 18 of the Nanooks’ 20 games.
