RELEASE | Goaltender Gabe Gratton to join SFU’s 2024.25 Non-Conference Roster

BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs Hockey program is excited to announce the commitment of Gabe Gratton to the non-conference roster for the 2024.25 season.

Gratton, a 5’10 goaltender from Fort McMurray, Alberta, spent the last four years playing for the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s (AJHL) Fort McMurray Oil Barons and British Columbia Hockey League’s (BCHL) Blackfalds Bulldogs, averaging a .894 save percentage and a 3.67 goals against average over 114 regular season games and an 8-7-0 playoff record.

“He works extremely hard at his game,” said Head Coach Mark Coletta, “he’s coming in to a situation where he has the chance to prove that he can compete at this next level and fight for that starter position with our other goaltenders.”

Gratton describes himself as a technically-minded goaltender who models his game after the likes of Nashville Predators netminder Juuse Saros.

“I’m here to help build this program on and off the ice,” said Gratton, who also stated to SFU Hockey that he’s looking forward to earning his degree in Kinesiology and having a positive impact on the community.

Gratton becomes the latest addition to the Red Leafs from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and the first since Logan Bromhead, who played for SFU from 2020 to 2024.
