PREVIEW | SFU to rematch UBC in Saturday night showdown.

BURNABY, BC – The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs are set to face the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds for the second time this season.

SFU and UBC met to kick of the 2024.25 season in Burnaby back on September 13th, with the back and forth action going in favour of the Thunderbirds by just a single goal.

Now with two more games and two wins under their belt, the group from SFU heads across the city to the UBC campus to take on the Thunderbirds in what should be a hard-fought battle.

UBC will also be entering their fourth game of the season with a similar schedule, facing SFU on the 13th and Trinity Western twice, beating the Spartans 5-2 and 7-1 in each of their matchups.

SFU’s offensive prowess has been evident in these first few games with former Trail Smoke Eater Max Potvin leading the charge with nine points in these first three games, followed closely by linemates Walker Erickson with seven and Lucas Ceccarelli with five. Goaltender Jesse Makaj is projected to get the start after an impressive performance against UBC a couple of weeks ago, keeping the Red Leafs in the game when they needed him most.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:00pm PT, and SFU’s own Nick Toren and Austin Cozicar will have the broadcast on the SFU Hockey YouTube.
